ATTACK ON GIRL.
MORNINGSIDE INCIDENT." INFLICTION OF HEAD WOUND. Stating she had been attacked by a man while returning from work at 5.45 on Monday evening, Miss Alice Morphy, of 24, Challinor Crescent, Morningside, Mount Albert, ran into her homo 'with a 4in. wound on the back of her head. Although her injury is not serious, Miss Morphy is suffering from shock, and was unable to attend her placo of business yesterday. While walking across a paddock at the end of Challinor Street, a man jumped out from behind a shed on the section and struck Miss Morphy on the bead. Temporarily dazed, Miss Morphy ran across the road to her home when she recovered from the shock of the attack, while the man raced in the opposite direction. Miss Morphy believes her assailant flung a stone at her at close range. Medical attention was sutamoned when the girl arrived home. Residents in the neighbourhood state that on one or two previous occasions women and girls have been frightened by a man at night. The matter is being investigated by the police.
