KEEP BORAX IN THE HOUSE.
Borax should always be kept in the house, so many are its uses. It is excellent for removing fur from kettles. Dissolve a dessertspoonful in a kettle of hot water, let it boil for a quarter of an hour, when the fur will become loose.
A pinch of borax added to the water in which vegetables are boiled makes them a beautiful colour. Kitchen teacloths, washed in water to which a little borax has been added, readily lose their stains and keep a good colour.
A strong solution of borax and hot water poured down drains and sinks has very cleansing properties. A teaspoontul in a pint of warm water will thoroughly cleanse a sponge. A pinch in the washing-up water gives a good polish to silver and glass. One part of borax to two of honey or glycerine is a splendid remedy for a sore throat. A teaspoonful of borax in a gallon of hot water makes a cheap and effectual hciiY wftsh# A teaspoonful added to the washing water will soften it considerably.
