WIRELESS LISTENERS.
Sir, —I notice that in the Herald it is stated that up to the present there are about 10,000 less listeners than last year. In my opinion, this is caused by the recent regulation that only licences for the year would be issued in place of quarterly and half-yearly licences. On protest being made this was relaxed and half-yearly permits allowed to those who made a declaration they were unable to pay a full year's fee at the one time. Now, who would do this? There are very many people, old and young, especially the latter., who, although keen, are not financial enough to find the full fee, and to discourage the young people is to dampen their enthusiasm, which does not help the thing along as it should otherwise. It must not be forgotten that the fees have to be paid in advance, so that the company is on a splendid wicket with no trouble in collecting the fees. Shortly, I think the authorities would be well advised to issue permits for periods from onequarter upwards as required. Personally, if the renewal had rested with myself I would have dismantled the fittings on March 31. 80,584.
