ADVERTISING DISPLAY.
THE COMING EXHIBITION. WIDE SCOPE OF PROJECT. MANY ATTRACTIONS ARRANGED. For many weeks past the Auckland Advertising executive and committees have been preparing on an ambitious scale for what gives promise to be one of the most successful exhibitions of its kind held in the Southern Hemisphere. This will take place on May 22 to May 26. It may surprise the public to learn that the whola of the Town Hall and concert chamber, supper chamber and vestibules, have been mapped out for displays and other attractions and the space available has been taken up. The main Town Hall will be devoted to exhibits by the newspapers, advertising agents and kindred interests. The New Zealand Government will be strongly represented by the Tourist and Publicity Offices and by the Railways Advertising Department, exhibiting the very latest in propaganda designed to stimulate the prosperity of the Dominion. High-class displays of indoor and outdoor signs, comprehensive demonstrations of office and mail order systems and other facilities will be presented in a manner that should prove a convincing revelation to business folk and to the public. To emphasise and carry the message to the point of practical domestic application a five-roomed brick house is being erected in the hall. This will be equipped with the latest in handsome fittings, furniture and desirable furnishings bearing the names of manufacturers. It will contain a model kitchen, snug den, and a delightful living room.
The concert chamber will strike a note of exceptional originality as an Aladdin's store with shopping avenues revealing captivating miniature window displays embracing all kinds oi' goods on the market. In conjunction with this feature there will he public voting on the relative merits of the displays and competitions, for which prizes will be donated, should help to focus much attention. What will probably prove one of the finest collections of commercial art ever brought together in New Zealand or Australia will be the array of posters in the large gallery of the main hall. It will include samples of the best work of famous designers and artists such as 1 Brangyn, Herrick, Cox and others of international repute. These posters are being specially sent out from Great Britain by the British Poster Association. Others are being contributed by the Empire Marketing Board at the instance of the New Zealand Government Publicity Department, which is giving the club's effort praiseworthy support. Other posters are by Auckland donors. Here, too, the public will have opportunity to record merit votes.
The supper chamber of the Town Hall will undergo a veritable metamorphosis for the occasion, as it is to be converted into a charming refreshment salon, where nationally-known tea and biscuits will be dispensed at a very nominal price. The room will have an Oriental setting and its patrons will also be treated to free continuous programmes of cinema pictures dealing with industries, scenic resorts and other suitable subjects. There will also be competitions for school essays on the exhibitions and for fancy dresses contests in connection with stage and screen personalities and wellknown advertisement creations. Special music for day and evening sessions is being arranged. The exhibition happily coincides with an optimistic spirit in keeping with a return to better times. Tt will be blazoned under the slogan, "Advertising Benefits Everyone," and should help the people of this city and province to visualise the power of advertising as a vital force in creating individual and national welfare.
