PROSPECT OF LONG LEASES. 1 DECISION OF GOVERNMENT. (Received April 26, 5.5 p.m.) BRISBANE. April 26. A valuable contribution toward the stabilisation of the grazing leases in Queensland is the acceptance by Mr. W. McCormack's Government of the Land Board's proposal to grant long leases to Crown tenants. * This has been the subject of considerable agitation on behalf of the graziers, who were hit badly by drought in recent years. The board advised the Government that If the country was to be well improved and effectively worked, long leases, which confer security of tenure, were absolutely essential.
