ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES

YESTERDAY MORNING'S WORK. BY ARCHER. " Track conditions were excellent for training operations at Ellerslie yesterday and some smart gallops were recorded. Most of the work was done on the No. 1 Brass and the best gallop was accomplished by Corinax, who went seven furlongs attractively. NO. 1 GRASS. The Storey Memorial Cup candidate Corinax (J. Cammick) had Modest Boy (S. Tremain) for a companion in a gallop over seven furlongs. Going well throughout, Corinax finished well clear in 1.31 2-5. Modest Boy, who was not knocked about, took 1.32 3-5. It was pleasing work on part of both horses. The stable mates Respirator and Brampton were associated over six furlongs. They ran the first two furlonga in '26s and the full distance in 1.18 2-5. Respirator was going the easier at the finish. A nice effort over five furlongs was recorded by Parfait Amour, who moved freely to run tha distance in 1.4 2-5. Parfait Amour promises to go well in the novice events at Te Rapa. Tidal and Hyde Park were in advance of Winsome Girl at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.19 3-5. This trio are all showing improved condition. Tidal and Hyde Park were going very strongly at the finish. A couplo of candidates for hack events at Te Rapa in Bombarder and Vallar were responsible for a smart sprint over five furlongs in 1.3 3-5. Bombarder had the inside running and finished in front, but Vallar did his work well too. Without being bustled, Princess Ronnie covered six furlongs in 1.18 3-5. The Polydamon mare has not raced as well as expected lately, but is likely to get a winning turn at any time. One of the best gallops of the morning was recorded by Archeno. She went fast in the early stages to run two furlongs in 255, three in 3G 3-ss. and six in 1.16 3-5. Archeno was tiring at the finish, but that was to be expected. W. Tozer's pair, Mountain Guide and Ladies' Boy, placed six furlongs behind in 1.18 4-5. Mountain Guide was slightly in front, but hiß companion was going lazily. Bluespear placed six furlongs behind in 1.22 3-5. The Catmint gelding was not looking for time and could have done a good deal better. Cynthia N. covered a mile in 1.47 3-5, the last four furlongs in 53 2-ss. She finished her work strongly. Good Boy dashed over four furlongs in 51 3-ss. ON THE TAN. A number of horses put in pace work on this track, where Royal Tea strode along easily for five furlongs in 1.9. THE JUMPERS. The jumpers were not much in evidence. Marble Mount (J. Mephan) and Spalmore (J. Sharkey) were separately schooled over a couple of hurdles, both fencing safely. Royal Trek (J. Sharkey) jumped the stonewall a couple of times. NOTES FROM THE TRACK. The Auckland light-weight H. Wiggins will have a busy time in the next few days. To-day he will be riding at Hustings and to-morrow at Te Rapa, and this will entail some quick travelling. His mounts at Hastings will include Plain Sailing, Perle de Leon, Kaihoro, Millai3 and Moa Bird. At Te Rapa he will steer Princess Ronnie, Bulolo, Vallar, Brampton, and Speechless. Additional riding engagements announced for the Waikato Autumn Meeting are:—J. Cammick: Corinax, Hiata, Tidal, Bright Comet, Ohinemuri, Rarangi and Auriculus. S. Henderson: Lady Spalpeen, Osear, and Raiakau, A. Tinker; Aussie and King Merv. Mr. J. J>. Jones' horses Dave and Solanio have been transferred from J. Williamson's stable into the charge of T. George, who is also working a three-year-old filly by Romeo from Thurnley. Dave has been on the easy list for some weeks with an injury, but is now practically recovered. The hunter Simplicitas had a leg broken in & collision with a motor-truck the other day and had to be destroyed. It was doubtful whether he would ever have been much of a success, although he might have won a minor hunters' event. Nevertheless, it was bad luck for Bert Rao to lose the Chesterfield gelding after getting him thoroughly seasoned and in splendid order for the winter. It is 12 months since Hyde Park had a race, but he has made good progress since joining N. Cunningham's team at Ellerslie a coufle of months ago, and it may not be long before he makes a reappearance. As a two-year-old Hyde Park promised well, but his form since has not come up to expectations. He has never been overtaxed, and, as he is only a five-year-old, there is yet time for him to prove a useful winner. Hyde Park galloped six furlongs yesterday in a manner that should give his connections encouragement. When J. Buchanan acquired Brampton about this time last year it looked as if he had purchased a youngster that would prove useful in minor company, for Brampton had just run e creditable second in a juvenile event at Ellerslie. However, the speculation has so far proved unprofitable, as the Lord Quex gelding has shown no form at all. Brampton has been working fairly well and seems to be doing a little better lately. On what was seen of Master Roley in his two starts earlier in the season he appeared to be a novice that was likely to make improvement. and it is possible that he might have a chance in the minor events at Te Rapa. Master Roley is a three-year-old gelding by Cynic from Mies Roseland and is trained by ,T. F. Tutchen, who has recently added to his team that useful performer Stormy. The three-year-old filly Partial Eclipse has done very little racing, but she demonstrated that she is likely to develop useful form by rurning second to King Peg in the Novice Handicap at Paeroa last month. She was finishing on well on that occasion and will not require to show much improvement to be hard to beat in tlie novico events at To Rapa, where she should be suited by the long straight. It is not surprising that Partial Eclipse displays promise, for she i 3 a half-sister (by Nassau) to the speedy Awarero. All continues to go well with Corinax and he directed further attention to his Te Rapa prospects by another pleasing gallop yesterday, The Magpie gelding seems better than ever and h'j should make his presence felt at the finish of the Storey Memorial Cup. Corinax will be ridden by J. Cammick, who knows how to handle him to the best advantage. It was at Td Rapa that Llandudno won a milo and a-quarter raco in the spring, and a similar effort would make the Formative gelding dangerous in the Storey Memorial Cup. What may affect his chance is the lack of recent racing, for he has not had a race since November. Still be looked well when worked at Avondnle recently and it would occasion no surprise to see him prominent at the finish. Llandudno will be in his element when the tracks got softer. The creditable showing made at a mile by Dimmer in running up fifth in the Eden Handicap at the Auckland Autumn Meeting has evidently encouraged his connections to give him another chance at that distance, for he is an acceptor for the Linley Handicap at Te Rapa. The Sarchedon gelding has not proved worth anything like the 1550gns he cost as a yearling, but his Ellerslie running was good enough to indicate that he is improving in Btaanina.
