POLITICAL ADDRESS.
MR. J. A. LEE AT NEWMARKET. An address to constituents was given by Mr. J. A. Lee, M.P., in the Municipal Hall, Newmarket, last evening. Mr. S. Donaldson, Mayor of Newmarket, occupied the chair.
Referring to the Liberal and United Party candidates, Mr. Lee said that what the country wanted was an understanding of policies, not a host of new parties bearing fresh labels. He declared Labour's policy was best designed to remedy the present poor political state of the country.
Dealing with the incidence of taxation, Mr. Lee said taxation should be levied on the recipient according to his income and not according to the source of that ipcome. It was not right that an income of £SO and an income of £IO,OOO drawn from investments in the same company should pay the same rate of tax, even though the amounts were the sole income of each recipient. The recommendations of the taxation commission should be given effect to and the incidence of taxation should be changed.
