QUEENSLAND FLOODS.
MAROONED PEOPLE RESCUED. MOUNT MORGAN INUNDATED. (Received April 23, 5.5 p.m.) BRISBANE. April 23. Immense damage was done at the Mount Morgan mine by the floods. A dam broke after lOin. of rain had fallen on Friday. Tho released water rushed into houses and shops and the residents spent a night of terror. They looked upon a scene of desolation next morning. Gas mains were exposed, fences were down and debris and furniture were floating about in all directions.
Two more people are 'reported to have been drowned, namely, Thomas Major, aged eight, at Graceville, and Miss Kathleen Duffy, near Rockhampton. At Rockhampton the flood waters are still rising and the lower portions of the town and suburbs are becoming submerged. Torrential rain is falling. Twenty-five inches have been registered in three days. Rescue parties in boats havo so far saved more than 150 marooned people. The damage to property amounts to more than £20,000 at Mount Morgan alone.
