HAPLESS BULGARIA.
EARTHQUAKES RECUR. DAMAGE AT PHILIPPGPOLIS. ESTIMATED AT £4,500,000. SUFFERINGS OF TEOPLE. MEASURES FOR RELIEF. Australian Press Association—United Service (Received April 23, 6.55 p.m.) SOFIA, April 23. Further earth tremors occurred in Bulgaria yesterday. Cold winds and rain added to the sufferings of the population, especially those whose only homes are now temporary wooden huts. Thirty shocks were experienced on Thursday and several yesterday. These completed the destruction of damaged buildings. Incessant rain fell for 48 hours up to yesterday. The damage at Philippopolis alone is estimated at £4,500,000. Many hospital patients are now lying in their beds in the open. Tho Government has voted £45,000 for relief and for building huts in the neighbourhood of tho devastated houses.
The Government has also postponed the collection of taxes and instituted a six months' moratorium in the stricken regions. The Pope has subscribed £450 to the relief fund, and other foreign Help is being received.
