POLICE COURT NEWS.
THEFT OF A BICYCLE. MAGISTRATE IMPOSES FINE. The (heft of a bicycle from outside the Tepid Baths on April 12 was admitted by William Brett, aged 30, in the Police Court yesterday. "He is a seaman," said Chief-Detective Hammond, "and is out of work. He is given to drink. The bicycle has been recovered." Accused was fined £5. # _
Charged with drunkenness in Queen Street, William Edward Watson, aged 41, was fined 10s. For a breach of his prohibition order ho was fined £l.
On a charge of behaving in a disorderly manner while drunk in Karangahape Road. Albert Edward Lyford, aged 54, was fined 30s.
A fine of £2 was imposed on John McQuoid, aged 56, charged with being drunk in Karangahape Road. On a further charge of casting offensive matter McQuoid was fined £2. Similar penalties were imputed on Edward Lee Lyman, aged 53, who was charged with the same offences.
Pleas of guilty were entered by John Edward Lane, Eric John Pell and Augustus Cyril Gustavus Skinner, who were charged with damaging a rubber mat, valued at £25. Each accused was convicted and ordered to pay a share of the restitution. Another employee in tho same office, Stanley Curtis, admitted a charge of stealing 5s worth of electrical wire, which he found ori the premises. In order not to record a conviction of theft against accused the magistrate dismissed the case under Seclion 92. Application for the suppression of the names in each case was refused.
