FATHER ATTACKS SON.
HAND CUT WITH KNIFE. ADJOURNMENT OF CASE. Appearing in the Police Court yesterday for sentence on a charge of assaulting his son, Houston Stewart, aged 55, had nothing to say. It was stated by the police that accused had slashed his son's hand with a table knife during a quarrel. When giving evidence a constable said when he arrived at Stewart's house Mrs. Stewart and two daughters were distressed. The son's hand had been cut to the bone. "Accused did not seem to know what had happened," said the constable.
On behalf of the son, Mr. Dickson said the family had been afraid of tho man. Endeavour would be made to have him returned to Scotland.
"This man had been drinking and in a fit of temper he 6lashed at his son," said the magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean. "It is possible that had he been allowed to carry on in this way he would have eventually found himself here on a more serious charge." The case was adjourned to the end of July, accused to take out a prohibition order.
