ONEHUNGA FIRE BOARD.
BOROUGH'S CONTRIBUTION. An intimation that its contribution to the Onehunga Fire Board for the current year would be £790 was received by the Onehunga Borough Council last evening. It was stated a similar amount would ba contributed by the insurance companies, and £75 by the Government. Mr. F. S. Morton questioned whether th 3 district received an efficient service for the money, and moved that the matter should be referred to the Finance Committee. The motion was not seconded. Mr. E. G. Speight, as a member of the Fire Board, said this was the first complaint regarding the service. In one period of nine weeks the brigade attended 53 fires, and in every case it was on the spot in less than five minutes. The cost this year would be £54 less than last year. On the motion of the Mayor the Inre Board's letter was received.
