SALVATION ARMY HOME.
NEW BUILDING AT PARNELL. OPENING ON SATURDAY.
The new Salvation Army Rescue and Industrial Home for Girls, erected to replace the building in Churton Street, Parnell, which was: destroyed by fire last year, will be opened on Saturday by Commissioner J. Hay.
Although constructed very much upon the model of the old building, the new home embodies the latest features in architectural design. The building has been erected at a contract price of £4981 Liy Mr. L. G. Watson, but it is estimated the gross expenditure after furnishings have been provided will approximate £6OOO. There are two storeys in brick and concrete, with accommodation for 40 girls in rooms and dormitories. Ihe appointments include workrooms, a sitting room, and an up-to-date laundry, as well as quarters for the staff. There are about 21 rooms in the new home, which will house 10 more inmates than the old build-
Since the old home was destroyed the majority of the inmates have been living in a house in Grey's Avenue belonging to the Salvation Army. Several were sent to the Army home in Wellington, and a few were allowed to return U> their homes. The new building will be occupied next week.
