STRIKE ON ULIMAROA.

JOB CONTROL ALLEGED. STATEMENT BY SHIP OWNERS. MELBOURNE, April 17. The Commonwealth Steamship Owners' Association in a statement say job con trol is being practised to enforce the demands made in respect of the Ulimaroa for an additional cook and sculleryman on the vessel.

The owners say the vessel has been running for 18 years with her present manning and they consider the demand to be unreasonable, but the union states that no cooks would be available ud.il the demand was conceded. The statement concludrs: "In view of these repeated instances of direct action, the owners have no alternative but to take action against the union in the Arbitration Court."
