NGAURUHOE'S ACTIVITY.

A WONDERFUL EXHIBITION.

SMOKE RISES 8000 FEET.

DEBRIS FALLS OVER TONGARIRO.

[BY TBXEQKAFB. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NATIONAL PARK, Friday.

NgaUruhoe gave a wonderful exhibition at 5.50 p.m. to-day. Clouds had obscured the summit during the earlier part of the day, but they had risen this afternoon and a magnificent view was obtained.

A thick column of black smoko arose from the crater. It appeared to grow like a tree, steadily and comparatively slowly. Up and up it went in a direct column to a height of probably 8000 ft., where it pierced a thin cloud arid could be seen above the clouds Spreading out, at first like an enormous cauliflower and then on and on for miles, overhanging Tongariro in a think, heavy cloud. The debris from this smoke cloud could be seen falling like a shower over Tongariro.
