COST OF THE NAVY.
SAVINGS FOR LAST YEAR.

Nearly £1,000,000 was saved on the estimated expenditure for the British Navy last year. The actual expenditure, as stated in a White Paper issued to-day, was about £61,000,000. There was no supplementary estimate during the year, and the additional expenditure incurred is estimated by the Admiralty &t about £140,000. This is to be met out of the savings.
