The Norwegian whaler C. A. Larsen, which struck a submerged rock and sank in Pater son's Inlet, Stewart Island, when returning from the Ross Sea with a valuable cargo of whale oil, was successfully floated again to-day. The vessel was moored in a perfectly safe position in v South West Bay. Earlier in the week divers completed temporary patching of the pumping room, enabling the ship to use her own pumping plant. The plan was to pump out the fore part of the ship and remove her to safe shelter, where the divers could continue their operations on the hull. PREPARATION OF DOCK. WORK AT PORT CHALMERS. [BT TELEGRAPH. —PKES3 ASSOCIATION. 3 DUNEDIN. Thursday. Arrangements have been completed between the Otago Harbour Board and representatives of the C. A. Larsen for docking the vessel at Port Chalmers. It is hoped this will take place within the next three weeks.
The dock will be lengthened by about 30ft. and the work will be pushed ahead with all possible speed.
