COLLAPSE WHILE BOWLING.
DEATH OF MR. J. HASLETT. OLD AUCKLAND RESIDENT. Sitting down on the bank after delivering a bowl, Mr. John Hasiett, aged 76, suddenly collapsed and diod during the progress of the veterans' annual tournament at the Auckland Club's green yesterday morning. Mr. Hasiett had been under medical attention for heart weakness for about four years. Play on all greens was stopped on conveyance of the news of the tragic happening, and the touvnament has been indefinitely postponed.
Mr. Hasiett was a member of the Carlton Bowling Club, and had played previously for Epsom and Onehupga. He was born at Druniory, near Belfast, Ireland, and arrived in Auckland by the Indian Empress in 1862. He was for many years a carrier, and was one of the few survivors of the old Victoria Rifles. He had recently been living in retirement in Empire Road, Epsom. Mr. Hasiett was at one time chairman of the Mount Roskill RoacT' Board. He is survived by Mrs. Hasiett, but there is no family.
