YACHTING PARSON.
CHAPLAIN TO LOCAL CLUB.
PRESENTATION OF PENNANT.
A unique ceremony in yachting circles took place yesterday, when the Rev. Jasper Calder, who was recently elected chaplain of the Akarana Yacht Club, was presented with the club's church pennant. The Hag is sft. in length, with lft. 4in. hoist. It has the cross of St. George at the hoist, and the club colours, red, white and blue, in the fly.'
Mr. Calder is the first representative of the Church to be appointed a chaplain of any yacht club in New Zealand, and probably also in Australia. He has always taken a keen interest in yachting and in his younger days owned and raced successfully the 20-foqter Sea Horse. About two years ago he purchased the 20ft. mullet-boat Ngaro and converted her into an auxiliary yacht. During the present yachting season Mr. Calder has conducted open-air services in the various bays in the gulf on Sunday morning. Not only have these been very largely attended, but also they have been much appreciated by yachtsmen generally. On Saturday Mr. Calder will take part in the race for 20ft. boats to Matiatia, and on Sunday morning ho will conduct a service ashore.
