ENGINEERS' CONFERENCE.
FINAL SOCIAL GATHERING.
The annual conference of the Amalgamated Engineering Union was concluded in the Trades Hall last evening with a most successful smoke concert, which was attended by over 300 persons. The function took the form of a welcome to the delegates of both the union and the Ironmasters' Federation, whose annual conference has also just concluded. In proposing the toast of the " Engineering Federation," Mr. W. B. Cameron said the engineering employees all over New Zealand had never been in a more united position than they were to-day. The relations during the conference had been more in the nature of a " happy family reunion " than a gathering of merely business importance. Ho expressed the hope that this state of affairs would always exist. Messrs. J. Sturrock and J. T. Thurston, replied. Other toasts honured .were "The King," " The Ironmasters' Federation," proposed by Mr. R. F. Barter, and responded to by Messrs. H. M. Warner and 1. 0. Bishop, and the " Zealand Labour Party," proposed by Mr. P. Dowse and replied to by Messrs. M. J. Savage and W. J. Jordan, M.IVs. An enjoyable musical programme was given.
