PROFESSIONAL GOLFERS.

BUTTERS WINS MYERS CUP.

A BRILLIANT ROUND OF 70.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] TIMARU, Thursday. The New Zealand professional golf tournament was continued to-day in fine but dull weather, which was ideal for play. There was a little wind, but not sufficient to interfere with play. The attendance of onlookers was good and great interest was shown in the play. The day was devoted to the first two rounds of the South Canterbury championship, in conjunction with the Myers Challenge Cup 'competition, and a second stroke handicap was also decided on the play in these events. The course was in the same good condition as on the opening day, but one or two greens were tricky. Play reached a higher standard than yesterday and the onlookers witnessed spectacular and highly interesting golf. R. C. Butters throughout the day played nearer his true form, his afternoon round of 70 being a brilliant effort. J. A. Clements also gave an outstanding display, his card out in the morning over nine holes being 31. His iron work was weak on the homeward journey, for which lie took 43. He had the same aggregate score of 74 in the afternoon round. J. R. Galloway experienced a bad run in the morning, missing seven short putts in succession, but he played excellently in the afternoon, being three under 4's at the 15th hole. He got into the ditch at the next hole, but made a wonderful recovery and finished the round in 71. To-day's results are:— Second Stroke Handicap of 36 holes.— R. C. Butters (Miramar), 74, 71—145; J. A. Clements (Christchurch), 76, 76, and W. W. Kay (St. Clair), each 75, 77 —152; ,T. R. Galloway (Palmerston North), 80—73, and B. Strathmore (Wellington), 75—78, each 153; R. H.
