SPELL FOR ARIKIWAI< NOMINATIONS FOR WAIMATE. [BY TELEGRAPH, —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCH URCH, Thursday. Arikiwai has been thrown out of work and he will have an easy time for a few weeks. He has earned a rest, as he has had a busy season during which he has paid his way well. The Kilboy mare Killoch, who *arrived from the North this week, ha» gone into C. Preston's stable at Riccarton. Her legs show eigns of trouble, as she was galloped on in a recent race, but if she makes a quick recovery she will be a competitor at "West Coast meetings in the autumn. D. Campbell has purchased the three-year-old gelding Polydectes, by King Mark from Itamos, and he has joined the team of the Riccarton owner-trainer. Polydectes has shown useful form in hack races up to seven furlongs, but he will have to race in open company in future. Countersign and Rotor are having a spell for a few days. E. Scoullar hopes to have them in work again next week, as he intends to race them at Waimate. A. McAulay has Sir Roy and Sagittarius nominated for the Waimate meeting. They look well, although their tasks lately have not been very strenuous. W. G. Hobbs is keeping Luminant, Merivale and Honeycomb going in useful tasks and probably will race them at Waimate next month. Battle Colours, who ricked a shoulder when racing in the ' Wyndham Cup, has made a good recovery. He will probably be at Waimate with Polydectes as a mate. E. J. Ellis is now established as a trainer in South Canterbury. He has purchased a property on the main road near the Washdyke racecourse. He has ten horses under his care, but the list includes a batch of Mr. J. M. Samson's yearlings purchased at Trentham last month. Some of the older members of the team will be prepared for jumping races.
WHANGAREI RACING CLUB. AUTUMN PROGRAMME. The Whangarei Racing Club will hold its autumn meeting on Saturday, March 31, and the programme issued in connection therewith shows prize money to the amount of £I4OO. The leading event of the programme is the Mclnnes Memorial Handicap, which carries th® good stake of £3OO and. in addition, there ia a trophy in the shape of a gold cup of the value of £3O. The Stewards' Handicap, which is the principal sprint race, is worth £250. The jumping division is catered for in the shape of the Northland Hurdle Race, to which therb is the liberal stake of £2OO. From the programme, which will be found published in full in another column, it will be seen that nominations for all events will cloie on Friday, March Si, and the same may be lodged either with the secretary, Mr. F. W. Webster, Whangarei, or with Messrs. Blomfield and Co., High Street, Auckland.
