MEETING AT INVERCARG ILL.

SEVERAL REMITS CARRIED

Tho annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Architects opened today, Mr. F. L. Moodie presiding. The following remits were carried:— That the conditions governing the award of the New Zealand Institute of Architects' gold medal to be altered to allow of the medal being awarded for design of the following: Building of public or commercial character fronting a street, road, square, or court to which the public has access; building of domestic character or private or semi-private institution situated in its own ground, drawings and photographs to be submitted. That the institute take into consideration tho advisability of framing a regulation to prevent architects from working in the employ of a contractor instead of in the employ of building owners. That it be a recommendation to the incoming council that the question of registration for clerks of works be seriously considered. That it be a recommendation to the council that it advise all members to demand from the contractor and insurance companies a certificate stating that the contractor holds an employer's indemnity policy m respect of his liability under the Workers' Compensation Act before any work is commenced; that it be recommended to the executive that it continue its efforts to impress upon the Governemnt the injustice of trespassing upon private enterprise. Jt was decided that the executive be advised to draw up rules, for the conduct of arbitration and circulate them among members. It was resolved that Mr. W. C. Chatfield. Wellington, who was the first president of the institute after the Act was formed, be elected a life member. The conference will be continued tomorrow and Friday.
