FREE STATE GOVERNOR.
JOURNEY TO IRELAND. ESCORT OF DETECTIVES. A. and N.Z.-Sun. LONDON, Jan. 30. Detectives in motor-cars guarded Mr. James MacNeill, the newly-appointed Governor-General of the Irish Free State, when he left home for Euston Station, on his way to Ireland to be installed in office. These precautions were taken in view of the alleged discovery, of a plot, to assassinate Mr. MacNeill. The journey to Holyhead was; completed without incident. Detectives escorted Mr. MacNeill to the Irish liner, where he joined the captain on the bridge until the vessel sailed. There was no demonstration.
