During the past few days the waters in the vicinity of Mayor Island have provided excellent sport with big game fish. Mr. A Court and party, on board the launch Rnamano, had a great experience with a large thresher shark, which was hooked by Mr. E. Cross, of Christchurch. It fought for three hours before it was killed. Its measurements were: length of flappers, sft. Tin.; girth, sft. lin.; length of tail, 7ft. lin. The party and others at the island estimated (lie weight at between 5001b. and 60011>. Mr Cross also captured a mako shark of good size, and Mr. R. Noton, of Auckland, also landed a mako. A mako shark weighing 34011). was caught yesterday afternoon by Mr. D. Manson, of Christchurch. It fonght for two and a-qnarter hours. The Rnamano, which arrived at Tauranga this afternoon, returns to Mayor Island to-morrow and then goes on to the Great Barrier. A party on the launch Dauntless caught two swordfish. A party from Taumarunui on Mr. J. Stewart's launch also landed a swordfish. Mr. Campbell, of England, caught a mako shark. REPORT FROM WHANGAROA. HAMMERHEAD SHARK LANDED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 WHANGAROA. Tuesday. Fishing at Whangaroa yesterday from the launch Rosemary, Commander Farquhar, of H.M.S, Dunedin, landed a hammerhead shark weighing 2941b.
