A mysterious attack upon a detective occurred in Dublin. While the detective, John Harling, was going to his home he saw two men sitting on a seat at the side of the road. As they' looked suspicious Hariing drew his revolver. When he was entering his gale a shot was fired. The detective replied and a rapid exchange of shots followed. One man ran away. Harlilig telephoned for the police flying squad, which later discovered the body of Timothy Coghlan, aged 21. The police are at a loss to understand the reason for the attack. It is not established whether Coghlan was one of Harling's assailants or whether he was a passer-by, as the shots brought many people out of doors.
