GRASS FIRES CONTINUE.

OUTBREAKS IN SUBURBS. SEVERAL HOUSES THREATENED. Slight damage to a house in Gordon Road, Mount Albert, was caused on Saturday afternoon by an extensive grass fire which originated in a vacant section adjoining. Only the weatherboards were charred, while the grass fire was easily suppressed by the Mount Albert fire brigade. The bouse was owned by Mr. E. Keith. The Mount Albert brigade was summoned yesterday afternoon to an outbreak on a section in Altham Avenue, Mount Albert, where a fire on a strip of grass between two houses was burning freely. The flames were quickly extinguished, the only damage being slight scorching of the paintwork of one of the houses. Two' other fires occurred in the Mount Albert district during the week-end, one being in Veronica Terrace, on Saturday afternoon, and the other in Troonville Avenuo, on Saturday evening. Both were subdued without difficulty. A minor grass fire broke out on Saturday afternoon on a section in Church Street, Onehunga, but the Onehunga fire brigade suppressed the blaze before any damage resulted. A small fire on Saturday afternoon, on an area in Hinemoa Avenue, Devonport, was beaten out by the Devonport brigade. The One Tree Ilill fire brigade received a call at 2.30 yesterday afternoon to a grass fire in an orchard in Rockfield Road. Some fruit trees and pine trees in the vicinity were slightly burned, but neighbouring houses, which were at one time in considerable danger, escaped . without damage.
