TRANSPORT LICENCES.
OBJECTION TO REFUSAL. SERVICE TO WAIKOWHAI. A telegram of protest against the refusal of the No. 1 Licensing Authority to grant a licence for the running of a motor omnibus service between Wellesley Street and Waikowhai has been forwarded by Mr. V. H. Potter, member for fioskill, to the Prime Minister. The telegram reads:—"Applications for ■ transport service licences which would have been of great benefit to the outlying districts of Mount Eden and Mount Roskill have been refused by the licensing authority, which is the Auckland City Council. , The Mayor had to notify the members during their deliberations that they were meeting as a licensing authority, not as a Gity Council, which proved that their first consideration was their own transport sei'vice, which is in a hopeless state, both financially and in not meeting the requirements of the outlying districts. Many houses are vacant, property depreciated in value, progress retarded through totally inadequate service. Seeing the Government has created this position through its motor omnibus regulations, of which the City Council has taken advantage, may I once again urge yon to immediate action to protect the public, who are placed under a great disadvantage as regards totally inadequate transport service and excessive fares. The public in the outlying districts demand their righls of beinsr transported to and from the city at reasonable fares, and frequent service. Great dissatisfaction is expressed on all sides at the Government's apathy and want of consideration for those ; placed in their present position through Government regulations."
