RACES AT BLANDFORD HAYES WINS BOTO EVENTS. Ideal \rcather oonditiora favoured Ski Auckland Athletic and Cycling Club's mooting on Saturday at Blaadford Park Stadium, I'he feature of the afternoon's racing wa2 the success of S. Hayes, oxaok professional rider. He won the two ervercfe on the programme by superior headwork, beating a much speedieoc rider in J. 3. Harcourt, of Hamilton. The track, afl" though fast, was not too smooth, but fba times recorded were fair. The starting by whistle,, as was the case on Saturday, was not satisfactory. The following are the results:— . ' One and a-half Miles Handicap.--JPrrst heat: S. Hayes, scr, V. Gore, 80yds, 2; N. Healy, 70yda, 8. Time, 4m 12s. Woo* easily by two lengths. Second heat: K. Peliam, 80yds, 1; J. HarcourL acr, 2; F, Lawler, 70yds, 8. 4m 7 1-Ss. Woa by haSf a length. Finals S* 1; J. H. Harcourt,. 2; J» 8. Time, to 4 l-ss. The field wis bunched when half the distance had been covered. Hayes took the load with y&o laps to go. and in a "great struggle ngfci up to the finishing line, ho just it a tod ions enought to win by hadf a-length. Gore was four lengths away third. Three Miles Open Han oicap.—-S. irayea, scr, 1; J. H. Haruourt, scr,2; F. Lawieiv 120 yds, 3. Time, 8m 17s. . The limit rides* were not keen to get going, R. Pelharn f laps being slow. When half the distance 1 . had been covered, the back-markers, with J. Earcourt 60yds in the lead, caught ttm field. Hayes came on the socne three laps from the finish, and, in Bpite of Harcourtls efforts to head him off. he lasted long enough to win by a few feet. P. Lawler who finished third, put up a great ride over the last ls>p.
