OPOTIKI MYSTERY SOLVED.
HUMAN LEG ON BEACH. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 OPOTIKI. Saturday. An inquest wa9 held to-day by Mr. F. J. Short, acting-coroner, and a jury of four, into the finding of a human leg on the Ohope Beach by some boys on January 18. Evidence as to the finding of the leg and boot was given by Constable Brady, of Whakatane, who stated that the sea that day was very rough. Witness was sure the leg was that of E. Jackson, # who disappeared in August, 1927. Evan York, school teacher, of Awakeri, said ho met "Jackson on the road about 5 p.m. on August 19. He advised Jackson to stay in his, car and have a sleep but deceased said he could drive all ripht. Returning home about 8.30 p.m. witness passed Jackson standing on the road, but no words passed. Herbert Edwin Battle, bootmaker, of Opotiki, said ho recognised the boot produced as one brought in about January, 1927, by Edward Jackson to have repaired. The jury's verdict was that the evidence went to show that tho limb found belonged to the late Edward Jackson and that he cume to his death by drowning but how he got into tho water had not been shown.
