TASMAN FLIGHT FUND.
APPEAL FOR THE WIDOWS. BOTH WITHOUT SUPPORT. LETTER OF ACKNOWLEDGMENT. "These young men sacrificed their lives not only in the interests of but also for the honour of New Zealand, and, to my mind, New Zealand is in honour bound to support their dependants. No one will gainsay their daring and bravery, and had they succeeded ihey would certainly have been acclaimed as heroes. I cannot conceive anyone holding back because they failed in their great adventure." In these words the Mayor of Wellington, Air. G. A. Troup, appeals for contributions to his Tasman Flight Fund. Giving to such a fund is clearly the best way of honouring the memory of Lieutenant Moncrieff and Captain Hood, who perished in their attempt to t conquer the Tasman. Mr. Troup has assured the public that both widows and the aged mother of one of them have been left without support. In a letter to the Evening Post, Wellington, Mrs. Moncrieff and Mrs. Hook thank the many people all over New Zealand who have sent thein messages of sympathy and paid tributes to the enterprising bravery of their late husbands. "We are deeply comforted in our grief by these expressions of interest and goodwill," they write, "and feel that, could out- husbands but know what acknowledgments have been and are still being paid to their venture, they would feel that they had not made their sacrifice in vain." The Heraj.u renews its appeal to its Tasman Flight Fund, the contributions now standing as follows: — Previously acknowledged . . £214 8 6 A. C. McArthur . „ . . 12 0 0 F. J.
