Fotheringham, of Takajiuna, have gone to Haumoana for the summer holidays. Mrs. Knight and Mrs. C. Knight, of Takapuna, left by the Ulimaroa on a to Sydney and Melbourne. Miss Phyllis Lewins and Miss Stella Harks have left Auckland a visit "to Hamilton and tho Waitomo c-aves. Mrs. Solomons, of Sydney, is visiting Auckland, and is staying with her another, Mrs. W. Haysom, of Birkenhead. Miss Eflie Hinds and Mr. E. Hinds, -who have been on a visit to America, are Teturning to Auckland next month by the« "Niagara. Mrs. Isobel Halligan and Miss L. Nicholas., of Wellington, are visiting Auckland, and are the guests of Mrs. N. y. Le Petit, Mount Albert. Miss W. Perrv, Miss R. Perry and Miss C. L. King*, of England, and Miss Holden, of Gisborne, at visiting Auckland, and are staying at the Grand Hotel. Miss Marjorie Wigg, who has been con•itiiiuing hex* 'cello studies ot th© Now South Wales Conservatorium, Sydney, has passed with honours in the recent chamber music examinations. Miss H. C. W. Gunn, 8.A., of the staff of the Waitaki Girls' High School has been appointed to the staff of the PukeTtohe Technical High School as a teacher in the languages division. Miss Veronica A. Walsh, of Auckland, lias booked her return passage by the Ruapehu, duo to leave London on January 13. She is now staying .with her uncle, the Rev. Charles Walsh, at Selby, Yorks, preparatory to paying a, round of farewell visits to friends and relatives in the North of England. Before poiiig North, Miss Walsh stayed with •Mrs. Edwards, at Barnes; tho latter v.*s a. former resident of Auckland. Farming Chinchillas and other rabbits ■for their furs is an industry in England which has grown enormously ;jynce Ihe war, and is still glowing. Women are among the most .successful of the farmers. Among ■the clubs connected with the industry are ithe Universal Angora Club in County Durham, and the Southern Angora Rabbit Society at Newbury. One of the clubs has as many as 2000 members. Tho Chiri■chilla rabbit's skin is tho nearest natural thing to the real Chinchilla. A coat of the Peruvian Chinchilla costs £2OOO, and the owner said that it took two years to match the skins, _ which were nearly 200 in number, A few skins were of little value bv themselves, but to get a colleciitin of 20C or 300 which match was little •short of a miracle. Before the war the Chinchilla industry in South America was mainly in the hands of Germans.
