RAIL SIGNAL DEFECTS.
EXPRESS TRAINS DELAYED. FAULTS IN NEW SYSTEM. The trouble experienced with the newly-installed railway automatic signalling apparatus between Papatoetoe and Mercer, on the occasion of the complete shut-down of the electrical power service a 'few days ago, was repeated yesterday, but in a leaser degree. Owing to the system becoming out of adjustment, and placing signals at " danger," the daylight limitod %vas 45 minutes late leaving Drury, and the limited from Wellington did not arrive at Auckland until 10.10 a.m. Officials of the department said yesterday that a little trouble was always experienced with electrical automatic signalling devices for a short while after installation. It had been the case in other parts of the Dominion where, after a while, and for years afterwards, the system had operated perfectly. .No danger to the public could result, emre immediately any defect developed signals were set at " danger."
