THE PLAY ASSOCIATION.
STREET COLLECTION TO-DAY. > ; V :; " ; " • -j"' ,/ • ; A street collection in tho city and suburbs will be held by the Play and Recreation Association to-day. The principal object oi the appeal is to raise sufficient money to erect new clubrooms to replace the building in the old Napier Street school grounds, winch has provided accommodation throughout this year. The real value to the community of the Play Association is not fully' realised by the public. Under the direction of Mrs. N. E. Ferner a wonderful organisation has been tmilt up and several hundreds of the poorer children of the city aro given sport and amusement under the most ideal conditions. In the old clubrooms girls have been "taught arts and crafts and boys have been given instruction in carpentry, household repairs and boatbuilding. After much trouble the association installed a gymnasium, which is patronised daily by hundreds of young folk. Singing, folk dancing and dressmaking are among the occupations ot the girls. The new club building will be erected at Freeman's Bay and will be surrounded by suitable playing areas.
