OHINEMURI NOTES.
WAIHI BEACH ROAD UPKEEP. COUNTY COUNCIL S POSITION. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.! PAEROA, Thursday. The Ohinemura Counfy Council met this afternoon, the chairman, Mr. 11. M. Corbett, presiding. The Waihi Borough Council requested financial assistance in tho maintenance of the Waihi Beach Road, which traversed properties rated by the Ohinemuri Coun cil. Tho chairman explained that the road was controlled bv the Waihi Borough Council, and its upkeep was at one time contributed to at a rate of £SO yearly by the County Council. Ho thought a moral obligation rested with the County Council to assist the Waihi Council, although i» was not legally liable for a contribution The road gave access to the properties of a number of county ratepayers.
It was decided that the chairman and riding member report on tho legal posi tion of the council in respect of its power to allocate money for the maintenance of roads controlled by a neighbouring local body. Twenty-one Hikutaia settlers petitioned for a report on the question of establish ing a water supply service from the Kurere Creek. Mr. Corbett said the scheme would be proceeded with as soon as possible. Mr. N. Moon, caretaker of the Waih oeach, complained of the nuisance causeo by fish offal being thrown on the beacl. by fishermen at low water and distributed for a considerable distance on the coun ctl's portion of the beach by incoming tides. The chairman and clerk were ap pointed to confer with the Waihi BorougiCouncil with a view to empowering •.uiretaker to prosecute offenders.
