( CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday Nearly 40 horses, representing most of the Riccarton stables, left ior Washdy-ke this morning to fulfil engagements at the South Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting Martarma. Wayward, Wild Work, Noteworthy. Quarterdeck Battle Colours and Front Rank are a few from here likely to race well. With the departure of a big batch of horses for South Canterbury there was not much stir on the Riccarton tracks this morning. Most of the horses who are going to Auckland were given useful tasks the reverse way. but without any attempts at record breaking. P. V. Mason worked several horses..

Eulalio was always going well in a sixfurlong spin with Golden Armour, run in 1.17 2-5. Goblin Market ran five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. The crack two-year-old Childs play, reeled ofT -six furlongs in 1.16 2-5. She got through her task very attractively and should be in great fettle for the Auckland meeting. Centrepioca and Rapier were- companions in a mile rrallop. They kept together all the way. There v. as no suggestion of making time, but both torses were going well at the end 'Footfall galloped about nine furlongs at o sound pace with Starflight as a mate over the last part of the journey. The Cup horse rail his first mile in J. 47 2-5, and was easing up at the nd covering the full iour ney in 2.2 2-5. Footfall is very well. Paperchase was given a smart spin over five furlongs. Count Cavour and Satrap were companions in a mile gallop in 1.47 4-5. There was not much between them and both fin ished strongly The- are progressing favour ably in their reparation for Auckland en <?agement3. Magna Charts. showed a lot of brilliancy in ti throe-furlong sprint. He looks in the best of health and should soon be ready •> show good iorm. The four-year-old mare Green Cloth, by The Ace from Equipment, has been soid by Sir George Clifford to the Dunedin sports man Mr G J. Barton. Cloth, who ia a sister to Centrepiece, has shown some speed on the tracks and although she has been a disappointment in her races so far. she should pay her way this season. FORTHCOMING MEETINGS. Iho Auckland Racing Club's summer programme will requiro further attention fro« horseownera to-day, nominations tor tho minor events closing at 5 p.m. First forfeits in connection with the Great Northern Foal Stakes. 54th Great Northern Derby, and 33rd Royal Stakes also fall due to-day with the secretary, Mr. VV. S. Spenee. WAIPA RACING CLDB. Nominations for all events to be run at the Waipa Racing Club's meeting close at 5* p.m. to day (Friday). The same may bo lodged either with the secretary, Mr. J. G. Wynyard. Te Awamutu, or with Messrs. Blomfield and Co., High Street, Auckland.
