Mrs. H. W. Northcroft, who has been on an extended visit abroad, returned by the Ulima/roa on Tuesday. ~ Miss Vera Ziman is leaving on a visit to Australia and Palestine, and will sail by the Marama on December 9. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. McGeorge, who have been spending a few weeks with Mrs. A. W. Sims, left last evening for Dunedin. Mr. and Mrs. A. Wooton, of the Malay States, are visiting Auckland and are staying at Rose Cottage, Hotel Mon Desir, Takapuna. Mrs Hope Lewis, who is sailing next week for Sydney, en route to England, has arrived from Wellington and is staying at tha Hotel Cargen. Mrs. R. Towle, accompanied by her mother, M r rs. Tweed, who has been staying with her for some weeks, has left on a visit to Wellington. Mrs. M. Turtel and family, of St. Helens, Lancashire, England, have taken up their residence at Hillcrest, the residence of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Armitage, Domain Street, Auckland. A very successful garden party was held in the grounds of Mr. G. R. Hutchinson's residence, Marama Terrace, Birkenhead, on Saturday last, to raise funds for the Awataha Company of Girl Guides. The Mayoress of Birkenhead, Mrs. E. G. Skeates, who was received by Mrs. Usher, District Commissioner of Girl Guides, opened the function. The Te Awamutu Plunket Society, in appreciation oi the success of the recent Royal Carnival, by which £6OO was raised, entertained the various carnival committees this week. Opportunity was taken to present each little child candidate—there were six kings and six queens —with a solid silVer serviette ring as memento of the carnival. The society's president, Mrs. H. de Lacy Peake, made the presentations. The Country Women's Club, a social organisation at Harapepe, a district on the northern slopes of Pirongia Mountain, has elected the following officers for its third year:—President, Mrs, Mahoney; Mesdames Marx and Corcoran, vice-presi-dents; secretary, Mrs. Cobbett; secretary to library committee, Mr 3. Codling; committee, Mesdames Marx, Mahoney, Corcoran, Watt, Whittaker, Haddock, Cobbett and Miss Mack. In appreciation of fier two years' service as president and the good work she had done in forming and advancing the club, Mrs. Marx was presented with* a collapsible card table. Mrs. Waterman, who is leaving the district to reside at Takapuna, was presented with a clock as a parting gift. The Country Women's Club is noted throughout the Waikato district for its activities.
