COMFORTS FOR LEPERS.

GENEROUS RESPONSE MADE, MANY CHRISTMAS GIFTS. Several cases of comforts for lepers at the leper station at. Makogai will be shipped by the Tofua, which will leave Auckland on Saturday for - the islands. The goods will be landed at Suva and from there will be oraiveyed by an interisland trader to tha station, where they will arrive in plenty of time for Christmas. The response this year to tho appeal for comforts las been wonderful, according to Mr. D. L. Thomas, who has organised the appeal. Tie said yesterday gifts! had poured in from all parts of tha Auckland province and even further afield. Everything the patients cherished and expressed a wish to have had been contributed:, and the approaching Christmas should be an extremely happy one for them. In addition to gifts, Mr. Thomas has received several sums of money and he proposes, to establish a banking acOQunt. on behalf of the lepers, so that some of the things they desire during the year may be purchased. Included among the articles to be taken by the Tofua will be two camp stretchers for the use of nturaea. The purchase of these was made at the request of one of the lepers who wished the nurses 46 have added facilities to rest themselves after a hard day's work.
