DELAY ON RAILWAY.

GOODS TRAIN IN TROUBLE. LIMITED RUNS BEHIND TIME. A serious delay to the outward limited express last evening wae caused through the failure of a goods train immediately in front to climb the Remuera incline. The frantic puffing of the engine and the mos'i, coercive methods of thf/ driver were in vain: all efforts ended merely in the train going forward one yard, then back two. Finally the limited express and a, following suburban passenger train had to combine forces and push the loiterer up the incline. By fchi:3 time the limited was about 40 minutes late and the second express was close behind. The goods train left Auckland at 6.45, the limited at 7.10 and th<j suburban passenger train at 7.13. When they were compelled to link up on the Remuera incline the unusual sight of a combined train extending from Dilworth Avenue footbridge to St. Mark's Road overbridge was provided. Residents in the neighbourhood turned out in force to see the novelty. It was not until Otahuhu was reached that the limited express was able to rid itself of its incubus. The goods train was then shunted on to a siding, and the way was clear for the limited to make up time. The railway authorities were unable to advance any cause for the failure of the goods < train, beyond suggesting ' that it. may have been due to a brake catching or a fault" in the engine. It was stated the train was carrying an ordinary load and would not have experienced any difficulty under usual circumstances. This is the second occasion this week on which a goods train has had great difficulty in negotiating the incline. Early on Tuesday morning a goods train spent noarly half-ari-hour in struggling to reach Rtmuera station from St. Mark's Road Bridge.
