LIMEWASH FORMULAS.

DIRECTIONS FOR MIXING. • Formula No. ■l. quicklime (one bushel) in 12 gallons of water; or mix 801b. of commercial hydrated lime with water to a creamlike consistency. (2) Dissolve 2ib. of common salt and lib. of sulphate of zinc in two gallons of boiling water. (3) Provide two gallons of skimmed milk. Pour No. 2 into No. 1, then add No. 3 and stir well Formula No. 2.—Slake half a bushel of lime in boiling water and keep it covered while slaking Strain the lime and add to it a solution of one peck of salt dissolved in hot water Boil 31b of rice to a thin paste; dissolve half a pound of powdered Spanish whiting and lib. of clear glue; add these to tho lime and salt; mix thoroughly and allow to stand for four days As this preparation should be applied, it is well to mix it in a pot or kettle that can be heated and moved about conveniently for use, it is best applied with whiteorush brushes, but paint brushes will do if others are not available. Whitewash that contains milk, flour, rice, and glue, should not be used in damp interiors. Whitewash is always applied lightly and not brushed in like paint. Formula No. 3. —Slake half a bushel of lime with hot water, stirring continuously while slaking; strain it and add one peri? of salt dissolved in warm water.
