OPOTIKI NOTES.
WAIOEKA BRIDGE OPENING. BOROUGH COUNCIL'S DECISION. [BIT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OPOTIKI, Wednesday. The Opotiki Borough Council met last evening. It was decided to forward £2O toward the cost of the McDonald Memorial at Gisborne, A letter was received from the Wanganui City Council on the question of the petrol tax, which the Wanganui Council considred should be reduced by half. Tho Opotiki Council decided to support the tax and considered there should be no exemptions. The council decided to hold a special meeting on December 5 to (consider tho question of the sale of Mossrs. Letts Bros.' electric light plant to the Power Board. The inscription plate to be put on the Waioeka Bridge again came up for discussion, a letter being received from the Opotiki County Council giving the wording to be inscribed on the plate and ask ing for the support of the Borough Council in connection with the opening cere mony. Several members of the council strongly criticised the County Council for ignoring the recommendation of a joint committee appointed to deal with the mat ter of the wording. The following resolution was carried:—"That under the circumstances which still remain unexplained, the council feels unable to cooperate with the Connty Council m the opening ceremony."
