ELECTRIC TOTALISATOR.

ALEXANDRA PARK SCHEME. TROTTING CLUB'S PROPOSAL. NEW STAND FOR MEMBERS. A further extensive scheme of improvements at Alexandra Park, involving the expenditure of about £40,000, is to be put in hand by the Auckland Trotting Club early in the coming year. At a special meeting of the cofnmittee of the club Mr. John Rowe, the president, submitted a proposal that the installation of an electric totalisator, with the necessary permanent building, and the erection of a new members* stand, should be proceeded with. Mr. G. E. Tansley, chairman of the works committee, seconded the motion, which was unanimously carried A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the president for bringing the proposal forward. A special committee, consisting of the president; and Messrs. C. J. Schnauer, T. Buxton, and the club's architect, Mr. N. Wade, was appointed to make an inspection of the electric totalisators installed on racecourses in the North Island, and to report to the general committee which, in their opinion, should be adopted by the club. It is understood that as soon as the recommendations are placed before the general committee and passed, the architect will be instructed to prepare plans preparatory to calling tenders. It is the aim of the committee to have the new buildings erected and the electric totalisator in operation for the club's summer meeting in 1928. Mr. Rowe has always warmly advocated the installation of the electric totalisator at Alexandra Park, but the question of finance has hitherto stood in the way. However, the club's financial position is now such as to warrant the important step. With regard to the erection of a new members' stand, Mr. Howe stated the work is clearly a matter of urgency, for with the marked popularity that has come to Alexandra Park greater accommodation for members is required.
