WANGANUI RIVER.
TAX ON TOURISTS DROPPED. [BV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WANGANUI. Tuesday The Wanganui River Trust recently decided to impose a tax of 2s 6d on tourists travelling on the river, but this decision has now been rescinded. At a meeting of tho River Trust, Mr. A. S. Burgess said if the trust imposed a toll of 2s 6d it would cause a lot of trouble and would only irritate tourists. He read letters from Messrs. Thomas Cook and Sons and tho Tourist Department, expressing tho opinion that such a step would be detrimental to tho river tourist service.
