COMMONWEALTH SHIPS.
SALE BY PUBLIC TENDER. INQUIRIES FROM BRITAIN. A. and K.Z. CANBERRA, Nov. 29. Speaking in the House of Representatives in reply to a question, the Prima Minister of Australia. Mr. S. M. Bruce, said a cabled message had been received from Viscount Inchcape, chairman of the P. and O. Steam Navigation Company, that the latter would be prepared to dispose of the Commonwealth Line of steamers for the Australian Government if it was so desired Lord Kylsant, managing director of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co. and Union Castle Line, had also inquired whether, in tho event of an offer being made for the line, the Commonwealth Government would be prepared to indemnify the purchaser against trouble in Australia. The reply in each case, said Mr. Bruce, was that the lino would be offered by public tender, and the Government could not consider any other offer.
