MOUNT ROSKILL AFFAIRS.
DRAINAGE AREA QUESTION. MORE INFORMATION DE3IRED. The Mount Roskill Road Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. E. T. Jones, presiding. A reply was received from the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board regarding the inclusion of a certain portion of the district within the "drainage district as already proposed. It was stated the boundary of the area in question had now been determined, in collaboration with tile Road Board's engineer. Several deviations had been made from the boun-dary-line which was based cn preliminary surveys, and this would necessitate- an adjustment being made with respect to £1049 provisionally agreed upon in 1924 as becoming payable bv the Road Board to the Drainage Board for inclusion of the area. Due allowance would also be made for the portion of the area which was incorporated in the borough of Mount Eden in 1925. A further becomes payable for the four years to March 51. 1928, the previous sum being in respect of the period from April 1, 1911, to March 31, 1924. The amended figures were now being computed, and the matter would be considered at the next quarterly meeting of the Drainage Board. The letter stated the Mount Eden and Mount Albert Borough Councils recently adopted a combined scheme to provide for rates and intensities of rainfall over and above the quantities allowed for in the Drainage Board's sewers. This scheme was designed for all areas lying; within the watersheds under consideration, including the portion of the Mount Roskill district now proposed to be ir> eluded within the drainage district, and portions of the Epsom district of Auckland City and the boroughs of Mount, JSlen and Mount Albert. The natural outlet for slormwater from the portion of the district under consideration was by way of the branch sewer and Meola creek. As the Road Board was desirous of participating in the combined scheme for tha disposal of storm water, full particulars had been given to the board's engineer, and the Drainage Board asked to be advised if it should design the branch sewer and the improvement works along Meola creek. Mr. T.. A. Tozer said no information was given on the two points on which the board desired an answer, first, when the Drainage Board was going to proceed with the inclusion of-the western area in its drainage scheme, and, second, the love! of the invert sower. Before the board's engineer can report on the Drainage Board's reply, an answer is to be invited to these two questions. The Mount Albert Borough Council advised that sufficient spoil would bo allowed to the board for filling in tha depressions in Mount Albert Road, on tho board's side of the road, an equivalent quantity to be returned later. TllC engineer reported that an oraer had been placed for a bitumen sprayer and heater, at a cost of £SOO, to arrive early in January. During the past fortnight ten permits for buildings, including four dwellings, were issued, the total value being £4680. There are 31 buildings iu course of tion in the district.
