Saturday next will maik another step in the progress of t! 10 Waikato Trotting Club, as 011 that day tho first, meeting on its new course at Claudelands will be held. The new track, which is about a few chains over six furlongs 111 cir-.umferen:with banked turns, has very favourably commented upon by those in a position to judge, and will enable patrons to get. a much better view of the contests than on the old track. An excellent list ot acceptances has been received for the meeting and everything points to the gathering proving a kreat success. A NICE FIELD. Although there were uummerous defections when the acceptances fell clue on Monday, a nica field of nine is left to contest the Mark Memorial Cup Handicap at Claudelands 011 Saturday. All of those engaged have form to recommend them and a fine raco should eventuate. Tho limit pair, Rockburn and Bold Bill, should go fast enough to keep those behind them extended. Tho latter lias done all his previous racing in the South, and this will be his first appears nco in this province. Despite a failure in his last start Gold Jacket read 3 better than Wallroon on the 12yds mark, while Lock Moigh, an improving horse, and Waikaha. on 24yds behind, should clso figure prominently in 1110 contest. The backmarkers. Diclc Dillon, Hughie Wallace and Lady Dunmore, can all go two miles solidly, although they will have to improve on recent form to concede starts to Gold Jacket, Loch Moigh. Rockburn and Waikaha.

NOTES FROM THE TRACK. , Since Lis successful exploits at the recent meeting. Jewel Pointer has net been required to do a great deal, although he has been doing sufficient to keep him in nico order to give his exhibition at Claudelands on Saturday. The Logan Pointer horse has taken 110 harm from his racing and without being knocked about ho should go fast enough to make his display interesting. Loch Moigh has been kept moving since the recent meeting, and should strip in great heart to tackle his engagements at Claudelands As lie* is handicapped cn 130 he has been assessed right up to his be3t form in tho Mark Memorial Cup Handicap. Still, he v:on so easily, going 2.18 al! the way for a mila and a-half, in his last start, that he will be fancied. Although ho was a good way back. Direct Morning was pacing in bold fashion when ho struck trouble at the end of the first lap in the Franklin Handicap at the recent meeting. Through the interference received ho left his feet, but thowc-d a r.ce turn of speed afterwards. Direct Morning is looking a picture and should show up prominently in the President's Handicap at Claudelands. After losing practically all her handicap at the start. Gold Dial demonstrated at. lhe recent meeting that she was very well by finishing third among the unhoppled brigade in the Papatoetoe Handicap. With tho hopples on she is likely to begin much better and off -4.15 should require a lot of beating in tho Claudelands Handicap. Gold Dial won tho Taranaki Trotting Cup off the same mark last feasm, beating, among | others, the useful horse Ricardo. Three wins and a second was tho record of Explosion in six starts last season, and his performance stamped him as a pacer likely to make a good horso. His best effort was to finish second to Anselm in the President's Handicap at Hawera, going 1.44 1-5. Tho track was very fast that day, but for a three-year-aid his performance was one worth noticing. Explosion is engaged nt Claudelands on Saturday and has only to strip well to be dangerous. Dealer, who figures on the limit in the Prankton Handicap at Claudelands. showed some promiso last year in winning the Maiden Handicap nt Taranaki in. 3.37 4-5 on it holding track and subsequently finishing third to Trampfast and Loch Moigh in the Kaponga Handicap at Hawera. If he has made any improvement in the meantime he should be dangerous in his coming engagement. Medusa, the three-year-old filly by Mano' War from Mis i Rolfe, is to make her first public, aprearanco in the Prankton Handicap on Saturday. On tho tracks sho hay been shaping very nicely and it will bo interesting to see how she shapes. A little racing experience should help her considerably. NEW BRIGHTON MEETING. FIRST DAY'S HANDICAPS.
