TRAFFIC LAWS BROKEN.
SPEEDING ON SOUTH ROAD. PROSECUTIONS AT PAPAKURA. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] PAPAKURA, MondayBreaches of the traffic laws resulted in a number of motorists being fined in the Pupakura Magistrate's Court to-day. The Franklin County Council proceeded against R. G. Coutts and Lloyd Thomas for speeding on the Great South Road Evidence was given that the county in spector checked the speed of defendants by following them in his own car and noting his own speedometer. Coutts was travelling at 40 miles per hour. Thomas was drawing away from the inspector's car when the latter was registering 40 miles per hour. The <~heck was taken along tho metalled road continuing on through the Franklin County from tho concrete road through Papakura. Both defendants were fined £3 and costs, £2 Is.. For speeding on the Great South Road at Papakura the following defendants, whose speeds were stated to have been between 33 and 38 miles an hour, were fined £3 and costsC. Kavanagh, M O. Kidd, G L. Sandford, L. R. liuntley, Frank Ward and Norman Day. Charged on the information of the traffic inspector for the Otahuhu-Maaii-row a district, Daniel Fletcher, with speeding at Manurewa, VV. E. Dray, whr*>e speed was given at 39.1 miles per hour, was fined £3 and costs, 13s, and Mrs. A. A. Bennett, 36 miles, and T. F. Lowe, 35 miles, were each fined £2 and costs. For driving a motor-cycle without a driver's licence, R. Sharp was fined £2 and costs, 10s. It was stated by tho inspector, Mr. Fletcher, that Sharp admitted he had been refused a licence af I'ukekohe. For driving without a driver's licence, William 11. Bond, Albert E. Stevenson, Joseph Wrigjht and George Randel were each fined £1 and costs. For allowing pillion-riding at Manurewa on his motor-cycle and travelling at a dangerous speed, A. Anderson was fined L' 3 and costs, 13s, while for pillion-riding at Otahuh'i A. Prince was fined £1 and costs, 10s.
