Y.W.C.A. MOTHERS' CLUB.

The annual banquet of the Mothers' Club of the Y.W.C.A., which was held in the assembly hall, was a very successful function. There were about 200 present, including the husbands and sons of the members of the club, as well as the friends who had helped the club during the year by contributing to the weekly programme. The tables, beautifully decorated with Iceland poppies, were arranged in a square, with a centre table. Mrs. Mann, president of the club, led the proceedings, and the following toasts were proposed and honoured: —"The King" (proposed by Mrs. Mann, with the singing *<f the National Anthem); "The Y.W.C.A." (proposed by Mrs. Trewhella, response by Mrs. Garrard); "The Speakers" (proposed by Mrs. Gaughan, response by Mrs. Farr); "The Entertainers" (proposed by Mrs. Taylor, response by Mrs. Bartley); "The Mothers" (proposed by Mr. Fitt, response by Mrs. Mann); "The Gentlemen" (proposed by Mrs. Fitt, response by Mr. Saunders). Mr. E. C. Cutten spoke on the work of the Mothers' Club and of the League of Mothers, and Miss Begg also gave an address. In proposing the toast of "The Mothers," Mr. Fitt referred to the wonderful growth of the club. It had been established four years ago and had done good work, but it was during the last year that it had grown so strong numerically, increasing in twelve months from 25 to 78 members. During the evening various musical and elocutionary items were contributed.
