OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.
A LOSS AT NEW LYNN. NO WATER IN STREET. A house of five rooms in Liverpool Street, New Lynn, was destroyed by fire shortly after midnight on Saturday. The ■ho ( yse, which had been built only three months, was owned and occupied by Mr. Trethowen, a naval officer, but the owner was absent at the time,. The fire had a good hold before the alarm was given. The Avondale Fire Brigade proceeded to the scene, but no water was available in the street. The adjoining house had a narrow escape, the walls being scorched and several window-panes broken. The house is stated to be insured for £750, but no details are available. An outbreak of "fire at Miss Nichol's confectionery shop in Broadway, Newmarket, was extinguished by the Newmarket Fire Brigade shortly after 11 o'clock on Saturday evening. The fire originated in a back room, where there is a gas stove. Part of the wall above the stove - was damaged by the flames.
