LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.

tauranga county area. INVESTIGATION BEING MADE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURAN GA. Saturday. A letter has been received by Mr. R. Finances, a member of the Tauranga County Council, from the Hon. A. D. McLeod, Minister of Lands, through Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P., in reference to a request that certain Crown lands in the To Puna Riding be opened for settlement under the provisions of the Land Act dealing with the settlement of inferior lands. The .Minister advises that the commissioner of Crown lands recently inspected the lands referred to, and it is the intention of the commissioner to visit the land again shortly with the field inspector with a view to thoroughly investigating the possibility of opening the lands for selection in suitable holdings. A very careful examination of the possibilities will bo made as early as possible, and then the commissioner's recommendation will be submitted for the Minister's consideration.
